DATE ISSUED: April 22, 2021
EFFECTIVE DATE: April 22, 2021
SanLing Energy Ltd. has provided notice it intends to cease operations in B.C. and Alberta as of April 30, 2021.
As a result, the BC Energy Regulator (Regulator) and Alberta’s Orphan Well Association have jointly applied to the Court to have a receiver appointed over SanLing’s assets. SanLing has 94 wells in B.C., all of which have been shut in.
The Regulator will continue to regulate these assets to ensure protection of public safety and the environment.
This is the first time the Regulator has initiated receivership. Appointing a receiver will ensure appropriate care of SanLing’s assets, may allow the assets to be sold and placed in the hands of responsible producers, and can help address liabilities associated with the assets.
