The British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER) has responded to an incident at Tourmaline’s Gundy plant, at a remote location approximately 150 kms north of Fort St. John.

DATE ISSUED: April 15, 2025

EFFECTIVE DATE: IMMEDIATELY

At approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, workers struck a pipe located on the site of the Tourmaline Gundy c-60 gas plant, which sparked a fire. The fire was extinguished early this morning. The plant is secure and there is no further risk to public safety or the environment.

Tourmaline activated its emergency response plan, isolated the response area and contacted everyone within that area to inform them of the incident. Area First Nations (Halfway River and Blueberry River) have also been notified.

BCER Compliance & Enforcement Officers travelled to the site overnight and continue to monitor the company’s implementation of its emergency response; the RCMP and WorkSafeBC are also involved. We are aware there have been injuries – out of respect for those affected, please contact Tourmaline for further information. Our thoughts are with the workers and families impacted by these events.

Updates from the company can be found on their website. The BCER will be posting updates as needed.
