Interested parties are invited to an online information session on May 27, 2024, about our expanded authorities under the Heritage Conservation Act
DATE ISSUED: May 13, 2024
EFFECTIVE DATE: June 1, 2024
As described in a recent Information Update (IU 2024-03), the BC Energy Regulator’s (BCER) existing authorities for regulatory permitting and oversight under the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) will be expanded effective June 1, 2024, to include permitting under Section 12.2 of the HCA for site investigations. This expansion of authority leverages the BCER’s long established review, consultation and determination processes for the protection and management of archaeological sites for energy resource activities that fall under our authority, and is consistent with single window regulatory oversight.
To support this transition, the BCER is hosting an online information session on May 27, 2024, to provide guidance to interested parties on processes affected by these changes. A recording of the session will be posted to the BCER website for those who are unable to attend. Please email ArchaeologyDL@bc-er.ca to register.
Additional information is available in the Energy Professionals section of our website: Heritage Conservation Permit Management.
