A new dataset has been published to facilitate an understanding of the location and characteristics of seismic cutlines and support restoration planning in Northeast B.C.

DATE ISSUED: May 9, 2023

EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately

The British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER) has published the new enhanced 2D legacy seismic data with ecological information on the BCER Data Centre. This information is designed to facilitate an understanding of the location and characteristics of seismic cutlines and support restoration planning initiatives in the northeast. This dataset has been developed in coordination with the Treaty 8 Restoration Advisory Committee (T8RAC), and spatial data derived from the project will be shared with Treaty 8 Nations.

The spatial data is initially derived from the provincial TRIM Miscellaneous Lines data, and has been interpreted by Caslys Consulting to estimate vegetation cover, width, and alternate line use. Imagery used in the analysis was sourced from MAXAR and includes high-resolution colour and infrared imagery from World View, GeoEye, and Quickbird satellites.

The dataset also includes additional attributes sourced from the provincial B.C. Data Warehouse, including biogeoclimatic data, elevation, adjacent forest cover, soil information, wetlands, caribou ranges and forest fire data to support restoration planning.

Additional information about this dataset, including a detailed product summary, metadata, and download access can be found on the BCER Data Centre.
