The BC Energy Regulator is informing pipeline permit holders of potentially substandard pipe.

EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately

The BC Energy Regulator is informing pipeline permit holders of potentially substandard pipe.

We are advising pipeline permit holders to review the quality of in-service and pre-service Hyundai Steel API 5L Monogram ERW pipe manufactured by Hyundai Steel in their Ulsan, South Korea mill.

This follows notification from the National Energy Board (NEB), through a Safety Advisory and Order.

Permit holders are reminded of API 5L pipe additional testing requirements under CAN/CSA-Z662-19 and CSA Z245.1.

CAN/CSA-Z662-19 Clause 10.3.2.1 notes: Where the operating company becomes aware of conditions that can lead to failures in its pipeline systems, it shall conduct an engineering assessment to determine which portions can be susceptible to failures and whether such portions are suitable for continued service.
